What’s up? Blog is now officially up. The first concert featured will take place on the first day of the year and will be headlined by one of my favorite artist, Wale. I have seen Wale perform many times, the last time being this past November on the MMG tour when they hit Baltimore’s 1st Mariner Arena. The concert left a lot to be desired and Wale was unable to go deep into his catalogue. Hopefully this will not happen again and he will play some of his early hits from mix tapes and the first cd. Wale just dropped a new mix tape, Folarin, yesterday so he may perform songs off of there for the first time ever. Wale usually performs with the UnCalled 4 Band (UCB) when he is on his own tour so I hope that element is there as I prefer live bands over just djs. It is no guarantee though since UCB has their own show, One Day Only, earlier in the day which I will also be attending. Even if UCB does not perform the concert will likely still have a number of special guest that will include Wale’s artist on his Board of Administration label and local rappers on the rise. One definite guest will be Tre who always tours with Wale and was one of the bright spots at the MMG show where he performed with Wale and Rick Ross. The concert will take place at The Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD. I bought tickets directly off the website. I have been to this venue a few times before and will most likely be upstairs somewhere to get a good crowd and stage view. I expect the crowd will be really hype seeing as it is the first day of the year and Wale being the area’s biggest artist. Let me know if you will be in attendance and what you want most from the show.
Yes, I know today is not the 25th, call me an overachiever. Before I begin blogging I think a few things about the site and my post should be pointed out to keep things in context and to respond to the questions and comments I have been getting.
Why only rap/hip hop concerts?
I will go to various shows, the majority, not all, will be rap/hip-hop because that is the music that I like and I am buying the tix. Also, it makes more sense to compare similar acts.
Why doesn’t the blog have its own twitter/IG?
Once people are following the blog I will add that stuff, it’s not easy to maintain multiple accounts on social networks.
How do you find out about shows?
Google duh. Also, twitter, blogs, live nation, ticketmaster and eventbrite emails. If you find out about some before me, let me know.
What makes a good concert?
I put the categories I will be rating so if the artist does well in those categories it is a good show to me. An easier question to answer is what makes a concert bad and for that I have a long list for but will just name some of the top things that I dislike. Too many unnecessary people on stage, background track and performer not in sync, no change in song to include audience, bad sound, artist with weak or no stage presence and also an overlooked thing is song choice; people go to concerts to hear the random tracks on the album they like not just the singles or songs with videos and some artist leave those gems off the set list.
Layout is kind of blank.
I know I am working on it, options are limited until I pay more, should change as the post count goes up.
Thanks for all the feedback, I will try to continually improve the site and I will always be taking questions and suggestions.
Look out for tomorrow’s post.
What’s up? Starting this blog soon but want some feedback before I start posting regularly. First post on the blog will be on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 maybe earlier if I feel it’s ready. Yes, this is your Christmas gift from me. Until the 25th I will be tinkering and building the site as I learn wordpress on the fly. During this time if you have any helpful tips or input as far as theme, ideas or approach I am all ears (well eyes because I will be reading but you got it). I have completed the About section if you are wondering what the blog will entail and why it won’t be like every other blog, check that out before asking something I have already answered. Use the comments section or email me. That’s all for now, be well.
